National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 17th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
This year NSS took place on Wednesday 24 May at 11.00am and Goulburn Pre-School joined in by sharing The Cow Tripped Over the Moon written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood. The children and staff were very excited to be part of the huge number of children all reading the story simultaneously around Australia!
Shortly after our simultaneous reading, at 11:30am the fabulous Trinity Catholic College Students brought their story telling talents to Pre-School to perform the story for us. They were wonderful and the audience loved them! A very special thanks to Mrs Anne Keene from Trinity who makes the time every year to bring the National Simultaneous Story Time to life for us here at Pre-School and in the community.
Hey diddle diddle,
You all know the riddle,
A cow jumps over the moon…..
The Cow Tripped Over the Moon is a story about perseverance. Cow is determined to jump over the moon but it seems the harder she tries, the harder she falls! With the support of her friends the cat, the fiddle, the dish, the spoon and the little dog, will Cow finally make that fateful leap? With themes of friendship and determination, this is the classic nursery rhyme, just not as you imagined it!
